Job Description

Position Summary

The Outpatient Senior MRI Technologist coordinates and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Department (MRI) in all Radiology locations, and its technical staff. The Senior Technologist

participates in the design and establishment of protocols, applications, and the daily workflows of the MRI department while making safety their number one priority.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:

  1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
  2. Manages daily operations and supply management for the department.
  3. Manages daily workflows and schedules of all personnel in MRI.
  4. Serves as the MRI department expert and provides staff training, education, and onboarding for new and existing employees.
  5. Coordinates and oversees the day-to-day operations and departmental activities.
  6. Identifies revenue cycle best practices and supports implementation within the department.
  7. Contributes to the Development of policies and procedures, protocols, and operational efficiency.
  8. Collaborates with other hospital service areas in a professional and cooperative manner to provide optimal patient care.
  9. Supports customer service initiatives and responds to patient concerns promptly and timely.
  10. Motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance while leading by example.
  11. Monitors PACS unspecified lists and Epic lists to ensure accuracy, and any needed exam corrections are done daily for timely reads.
  12. Monitors, documents, and performs equipment QA/QC as outlined by the ACR, DOH, and Joint commission.
  13. Participates in Joint Commission surveys, rounding, and preparation.
  14. Performs timekeeping for all MRI staff timely and accurately and manages PTO requests.
  15. Performs and/or oversees the performance of MRI procedures, to include instructing and manipulating patients, selecting techniques, calibrating equipment, and performing scans.
  16. Dispatches calls for equipment service and coordinates preventative maintenance.
  17. Ensures adherence to established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and safety standards.
  18. Performs ACR accreditations consisting of documentation and image submission for accreditation purposes.
  19. Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Technical Manager or designee.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • ARRT Registered Technologist, RT Licensure
  • ARRT MRI Certified
  • NYS DOH Licensure
  • NYS license to perform injections
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an MRI Tech or Lead Tech
  • MRSO Certification preferred
  • BLS certification

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment

  • Must be able to remain in stationary position 50% of the time
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside all the MRI zones to access coils and paperwork.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with patients who have questions about their bills/financial obligations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Must be able to observe and inspect employees and patients in all the MRI zones.
  • Frequently move and position patients for MRI exams.
  • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
