Basic Functions and Scope of Responsibility
The Summer Camp Group Leader is responsible for the direct supervision, safety, and engagement of a group of children in the ELC’ s summer camp program. This role leads daily activities, ensures a positive and inclusive environment, and supports the overall goals of the camp experience. Group Leaders serve as role models who demonstrates core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility while creating memorable, enriching experiences for campers.
Role Responsibilities
- Supervise and actively engage with a group of campers throughout the day, including during activities, transitions, meals, and field trips
- Implement and support daily camp activities, games, crafts, and enrichment programming aligned with ELC goals
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment; report any safety concerns to leadership
- Build strong relationships with campers, families, and fellow staff through positive communication and interactions
- Support positive behavior guidance and uphold policies related to safety, supervision, and risk management
- Assist with camp arrival and dismissal procedures, attendance, and camper check-in/check-out
- Attend and participate in all required staff trainings, planning meetings, and daily check-ins
- Document incidents or accidents in a timely and accurate manner
- Perform other duties as assigned by the ELC Executive Director
Education, Experience & Training
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must meet all state childcare licensing requirements
- Eligible to be counted in staff-to-child ratios
- Prior experience working with children in camp, recreation, or youth program settings preferred
- Current pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certification or willing to obtain within 30 days of employment
- Completion of all required onboarding and child protection trainings
- Strong leadership, communication, and team collaboration skills
- Ability to remain energetic, patient, and flexible in a fast-paced indoor/outdoor environment
- Commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and engaging summer experience for all campers

Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.
- Must have high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop/bend.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
