Full time | 10-month | Non-exempt

Position Summary

St. George’s Episcopal School is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Nursery Caregiver to work with our youngest StG Dragons. St. George’s is seeking candidates who demonstrate compassion and a commitment to providing high-quality infant caregiving that supports the children’s development, comfort and needs. The Nursery Caregivers work in partnership with the Lead Nursery Caregiver and Nursery Program Coordinator to meet the classroom and licensing expectations within the classroom setting, and they will report to the Director of Early Childhood for more serious matters. Candidates must meet state licensing expectations when providing care, as well as meeting the programmatic expectations of the Early Childhood programming, including but not limited to aligning their teaching practices with the “StG Way,” engaging in strong parent communication and writing and executing lesson plans and progress reports. Candidates who are organized, patient, flexible, warm, energetic and engaging are likely to be successful team members on the Nursery Team.

Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares meals and organizes mealtimes and snacks for children
  • Helps children keep good hygiene; changes diapers
  • Utilizes infant-centered language to support the developmental needs of this age group, ensuring tone and volume are in alignment with best practice for this age group
  • Creates and executes lesson plans that allows children to learn about the world and explore interests in an age appropriate manner
  • Facilitates free play in an active and engaging way
  • Maintains schedules and routines to ensure that the needs of the children are being met
  • Ensures that children have enough physical activity, rest and playtime
  • Supports sleeping and napping time routines
  • Documents and communicates daily the sleeping, eating and activities of each child to the parents using Brightwheel, as well as taking pictures of each child in the class daily
  • Communicates effectively with parents and establishes a team approach with the child’s family, including supporting the Nursery Program Coordinator and/or Lead Nursery Caregiver with completing progress reports
  • Displays a warm and nurturing character that supports the applicant’s ability to connect with young children and their families
  • Shows dedication to social, emotional and character development of each child; watches for signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and brings the problems to the attention of parents
  • Understands the environment the applicant creates is an important teaching tool
  • Assists Lead Nursery Caregiver with implementing a child-centered curriculum for each child, develops appropriate challenging curriculum to meet the needs of the students and provides a variety of ongoing assessments
  • Follows all daycare licensing policies, Department of Health procedures and fire regulations
  • Responds positively to feedback from the Nursery Program Coordinator and Lead Nursery Caregiver to ensure high expectations and licensing compliance

Qualification Requirements

  • Early childhood ancillary certificate is preferred
  • One year of experience in teaching or care in a licensed early learning facility
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace applications including but not limited to Gmail, Calendar and Drive (Docs, Sheets and Slides); knowledge of Brightwheel preferred
  • Ability to use an online student information system, various digital educational platforms and safety and communication applications on a Chromebook, iPad and/or a smartphone
  • Familiarity with using copiers, printers, document cameras and presentation screens
  • Excellent knowledge of child development, the latest education theories and practices and current trends in education
  • A sense of integrity, ethics and ability to carry out responsibilities in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Punctual and dependable

Working Conditions / Physical Demands:

  • Must be physically able to operate computers and office equipment.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling and twisting; constant walking, speaking and listening; close visual attention to the computer.
  • Able to sit on the floor for extended periods of time
  • Occasional lifting up to 50lbs.
