Job Overview

The Manlyn Development Group is seeking a detail-driven Estimator / Estimating Assistant to support the preparation of accurate, competitive, and complete bids for commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for assembling all project costs in advance, supporting bid strategy development, and assisting with project turnover after award.

Key Responsibilities

The Estimator / Estimating Assistant is responsible for supporting all phases of the bidding and preconstruction process, including:

  • Pre-Bid & Bid Preparation
    • Review bid sets in their entirety and create comprehensive subcontractor bid lists.

    • Attend site visits and scheduled walkthroughs as required.

    • Distribute drawings, specifications, and bid documents to subcontractors and vendors.

    • Follow up with subcontractors and vendors to ensure timely receipt of bids.

    • Assist in developing bid strategies for review with the immediate supervisor.

    • Complete all required bid forms accurately and on time.

    • Prepare bids, proposals, and required exclusions or clarifications.

    • Perform complete and thorough quantity takeoffs and estimates when required.

    • Review subcontractor proposals for scope, pricing, exclusions, and completeness.

    • Enter subcontractor pricing into bid summaries and carry lowest qualified bids.

    • Prepare general conditions cost summaries.

    • Participate in final bid reviews with supervisors prior to submission.

  • Post-Bid & Project Turnover
    • Follow up with Owners and Architects regarding bid results.

    • Attend post-bid interviews, clarifications, and Q&A meetings as needed.

    • Revise bids and prepare updated proposals when required.

    • Assist with job startup and subcontractor buyout upon award.

    • Prepare purchase orders and detailed scopes of work (Schedule A).

    • Coordinate project turnover to the Project Manager and Field Superintendent.

Qualifications
  • Experience in construction estimating or estimating support preferred

  • Associates Degree preferred (or equivalent industry experience).

  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

  • High level of attention to detail and organizational accuracy.

  • Strong communication skills with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.

  • Ability to manage deadlines and maintain consistency under bid pressure.

  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and improve estimating skills over time.

Preferred Licenses & Certifications
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification (preferred)

  • NYC SST Worker Certification (preferred)Training and certification support available if not currently held.
