Job Description
The Ride Maintenance Manager is responsible for directing, planning, organizing, supervising, and participating in the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, disassembly, and operational readiness of amusement rides and attractions throughout Lagoon Amusement Park. This position oversees Ride Maintenance Technicians and daily ride maintenance operations while ensuring rides and attractions operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications, industry best practices, and in accordance with Company policies and procedures. The Ride Maintenance Manager plays a critical role in promoting safety, teamwork, training, accountability, and providing a safe and enjoyable experience for park guests and employees.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Direct, supervise, schedule, train, and support Ride Maintenance Technicians, Crew Managers, and assigned department team members.
- Oversee daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inspections of amusement rides and attractions in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and safety protocols.
- Oversee preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, testing, and operational readiness of amusement rides and attractions.
- Respond to ride malfunctions, operational issues, emergency repairs, and ride downtime situations promptly and professionally.
- Assist with the installation, assembly, rehabilitation, and disassembly of rides and attractions, including seasonal or new ride setup projects.
- Ensure maintenance activities are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, applicable codes, industry best practices, ASTM standards, and Company policies and procedures.
- Maintain an understanding and working knowledge of ASTM standards, amusement ride safety practices, and safe mechanical operations.
- Ensure proper Lockout/Tagout procedures and safe work practices are followed during maintenance operations.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, and safety documentation.
- Prepare, manage, and monitor department labor budgets, supply budgets, operational expenses, inventory, and staffing levels.
- Manage department scheduling, staffing assignments, maintenance priorities, and operational support needs.
- Assist with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, evaluating, and developing Crew Managers, Ride Maintenance Technicians, and department team members.
- Provide leadership and instruction regarding safe work practices, fall protection, confined space awareness, equipment operation, and department safety programs.
- Coordinate maintenance projects and operational support with Operations, Safety, Construction, Electrical, Mechanical Services, and other departments.
- Ensure maintenance shops, tools, equipment, and assigned work areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
- Operate department vehicles, lifts, maintenance equipment, testing devices, and tools safely and effectively.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications/Abilities
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Minimum of five (5) years of mechanical maintenance experience required; amusement ride maintenance or industrial maintenance experience preferred.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gearboxes, drive systems, and industrial maintenance practices.
- Effective troubleshooting, organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and maintenance documents.
- Ability to train, motivate, coach, and evaluate employees while promoting teamwork and accountability.
- Must be self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently and in a team environment.
- Must be able to work comfortably at heights 200 feet above ground, including catwalks, aerial lifts, crane baskets, scaffolding, and ride structures.
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- AIMS certification or the ability to obtain and maintain AIMS certification preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Utah driver license or have the ability to obtain one.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours and a variable schedule, including early mornings, weekends, evenings, holidays, and extended hours as operational needs require. Shifts may begin as early as 4:00 a.m. and others may end as late as midnight.
Working Conditions
- This position requires working in an environment that includes exposure to high noise levels, bright/flashing light or darkened areas, fog or haze, large crowds and other factors typical to an amusement park setting.
- This position will perform essential job duties outdoors and be exposed to environmental elements including, but not limited to, extreme heat or cold, wind, dust, noise, rain, snow, and direct sunlight.
- This position may require working at heights, around moving mechanical equipment, in confined spaces, and in elevated work platforms.
- This position may require responding to operational issues and emergencies during park operating and non-operating hours.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described below must be met to successfully perform the essential job responsibilities.
- Must be able to use fingers, hands, arms, and legs to reach, operate equipment, climb stairs, evacuate guests from lifts, perform routine safety checks, and use hands to handle or feel.
- Able to sit, stand, walk (at a specified pace), crouch, crawl, kneel, reach above the head or stoop for the duration of a shift up to eight (8) hours
- Able to regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and up to one hundred (100) pounds assisted
- Able to move equipment which would include pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting
- Able to walk quickly to and from job locations up to one (1) mile distance.
- Must have sufficient hearing and visual acuity to observe equipment, Lagoon guests, etc.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
