This role sits at the heart of supply chain and tax compliance operations, ensuring that fuel import and export activities are executed accurately, transparently, and in full alignment with regulatory requirements. You will act as a key control point within a complex, high-volume environment, helping to identify risks early, strengthen compliance processes, and improve operational efficiency. The position involves close collaboration with stakeholders across tax, finance, risk, and logistics functions, as well as external agents and regulatory bodies. You will work in a data-driven environment where accuracy, governance, and continuous improvement are critical to success. This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys structured analytical work, process optimisation, and cross-functional coordination within a regulated industry setting.
- Oversee compliance processes related to fuel imports and exports, ensuring all documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted in line with regulatory requirements.
- Lead regular import coordination meetings and engage with stakeholders to align on operational and compliance requirements.
- Review, validate, and reconcile import and export data across ERP systems, trade records, and customs documentation.
- Track fuel volumes against permits, support permit applications, and ensure adherence to regulatory thresholds.
- Manage relationships with clearing and shipping agents to ensure timely and compliant customs documentation.
- Monitor outstanding documentation, follow up with stakeholders, and ensure resolution of discrepancies.
- Produce regular compliance reports, dashboards, and insights to support operational visibility and decision-making.
- Maintain compliance logs, support audits, and contribute to governance and control frameworks.
- Track and analyse incidents, near misses, and compliance risks, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of automated compliance tools, dashboards, and reporting systems.
- Maintain up-to-date process documentation and ensure clear communication of procedural changes across teams.
- Collaborate with tax, finance, risk, and control teams to support compliance frameworks and internal governance requirements.
- Experience in indirect tax compliance, auditing, financial controls, or a related compliance-focused role.
- Background working within large, complex, or highly regulated organisations.
- Strong understanding of tax compliance processes, commercial operations, and governance frameworks.
- Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders across finance, tax, operations, and external partners.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify discrepancies, and propose solutions.
- High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a proactive working style.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain compliance issues and recommendations.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong overall MS Office capabilities.
- Experience working with compliance frameworks, internal controls, or ITCF-type environments is highly advantageous.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of South African oil, fuel, or energy industry regulations is an advantage.
