Job Description

Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Chef Manager responsible for the food production program as well as special events at an independent school for students, 18 months to 18 years, on the edge of the Wissahickon Valley in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia. What you will do:

  • Assist the Executive Chef with all aspects of production and work collaboratively alongside production staff to incorporate key ingredients/products into recipes and menu offerings daily.

  • Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meals and other items; determine how food should be presented and create decorative food displays.

  • Ensure the quality and timeliness of food production, using batch cooking methods to maintain the quality and freshness of the product.

  • Assist the Director of Dining Services with ordering food/supplies and receiving and checking products for freshness and quality.

  • Assist with monitoring and recording kitchen inventory and production data; drive sustainability programs to improve waste reduction.

  • Assist the Director of Dining Services with day-to-day support, training, and staff guidance to ensure that food quality standards, food safety, and sanitation guidelines are met.

  • Ensure correct use of equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and schedule equipment maintenance

  • Inspect supplies, equipment, or work areas to ensure conformance to established standards

  • Keep food production areas, kitchen equipment, and storage areas clean, organized, and sanitized; participate in and assist with coordinating the cleaning of cooking areas and equipment.

  • Assist with and attend daily pre-production and service meetings; offer input regarding leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.

  • Foster an inclusive environment for all staff and guests, while maintaining effective client and customer-centric relationships

  • Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices

  • Regular & Predictable Attendance

  • Other duties, as assigned


What you need:

  • A culinary degree and 3+ years of Kitchen Management experience required

  • ANSI Food Protection Manager and Allergen Certified

  • Exceptional cooking skills; experience with high-volume food service operations

  • Arithmetic, ability to measure products and convert units of measure

  • Proficient in the use of commercial kitchen equipment, including routine maintenance and cleaning

  • Participative management style and excellent leadership skills

  • Attention to detail, management, and organizational skills; teamwork-oriented
