Position Description
The Procurement and Supply Chain Lead is responsible for overseeing procurement strategy, supply chain management, and material coordination across three concurrent warehouse construction projects. This role ensures timely sourcing, cost control, supplier performance, and alignment with project schedules to support successful delivery across the full program lifecycle.
This individual serves as the central point of accountability for procurement planning, subcontractor and vendor management, logistics coordination, and risk mitigation, working closely with project leadership, preconstruction, scheduling, and field operations teams.
Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities
Program-Level Oversight
Lead procurement and supply chain strategy across all three warehouse projects, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and alignment with Smith Group of Americas standards.
Develop and implement a consolidated procurement plan that reflects schedule milestones, phasing, and project-specific requirements.
Monitor procurement performance across projects, identifying risks, opportunities, and efficiencies at the program level.
Procurement Planning and Execution
Collaborate with Preconstruction, Project Management, and Scheduling teams to define procurement timelines aligned with Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules.
Oversee bid packaging strategy, scope delineation, and procurement sequencing to support project execution.
Lead sourcing, bid evaluation, negotiation, and award recommendations for major trades, materials, and equipment.
Ensure compliance with contract requirements, company policies, and project-specific procurement guidelines.
Vendor and Supplier Management
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors.
Evaluate vendor performance across all projects, including quality, delivery, cost, and reliability metrics.
Resolve supplier and subcontractor issues, ensuring minimal disruption to project schedules.
Supply Chain Coordination and Logistics
Oversee material tracking, expediting, and logistics planning across all project sites.
Collaborate with field teams and superintendents to ensure timely delivery, staging, and availability of materials.
Coordinate with warehouse operations and site teams on storage, inventory, and distribution strategies.
Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including long-lead items, shortages, and logistical constraints.
Schedule and Cost Integration
Align procurement activities with project schedules to ensure on-time delivery of critical materials and equipment.
Track procurement status against milestones and provide regular reporting to project leadership.
Partner with Cost Management teams to monitor budgets, forecast procurement costs, and identify savings opportunities.
Reporting and Communication
Provide regular updates to program leadership on procurement status, key risks, and mitigation strategies.
Develop dashboards and reports to track procurement progress, vendor performance, and supply chain health.
Participate in Operations Review Meetings (ORMs) and project coordination meetings.
Risk Management and Continuous Improvement
Identify procurement and supply chain risks early and implement proactive mitigation plans.
Apply continuous improvement practices to optimize procurement processes, reduce costs, and improve cycle times.
Drive standardization of procurement practices across the three projects.
Leadership and Collaboration
Lead and mentor procurement and logistics personnel supporting the projects.
Foster strong collaboration with Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, Scheduling, and Preconstruction teams.
Support Business Development efforts by providing procurement insights, market intelligence, and cost trends.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in construction procurement, supply chain management, or project management
Experience supporting large-scale industrial, warehouse, or similar construction projects (multi-project/program experience preferred)
Strong knowledge of construction procurement processes, contract structures, and trade scopes
Experience with long-lead equipment procurement and materials management
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Technical Skills
Proficiency in procurement and project management systems (e.g., Procore, SAP, Oracle, or similar)
Strong understanding of CPM scheduling and integration with procurement timelines
Advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting skills
Core Competencies
Strategic thinking with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Ability to influence and collaborate across cross-functional teams
