Laboratory Courier at University Medical Center of El Paso – El Paso, Texas

Job Summary

Drives within El Paso County, Horizon, Fabens, and surrounding areas to pick up routine labs, STAT labs, specialty testing, and pathology specimens. Delivers laboratory supplies and ensures the safe and timely pick-up and transport of laboratory specimens to designated locations. Strict compliance with regulatory standards for handling and transporting biological materials is essential. Serves as a backup for other courier staff.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

One year of courier or delivery experience required.

Experience handling laboratory specimens or medical materials preferred.

License/Registration/Certification:

Valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance required.

Must meet hospital insurance requirements for driving hospital-owned vehicles.

OSHA/DOT training in the safe handling and transport of biological specimens preferred.

Education and Training:

High School diploma or equivalent education required.

Skills:

Knowledge of proper specimen handling and infection control practices. Ability to read and follow schedules, delivery routes, and safety procedures Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and tolerate frequent driving. Ability to travel between multiple clinic and outreach sites efficiently while transporting specimens and supplies safely.
