Job Description
Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment such as cranes, tracked vehicles, and rough terrain container handler, container handling equipment, and material handling equipment. This includes operation of of manually controlled gasoline, electric, or liquid propane gas powered forklift to transport goods and materials within a warehouse, manufacturing plant, or other establishment.
Essential Functions of the Position
· Operates heavy equipment such as: cranes, clamshells, heavy loaders, carryalls, rollers, and large industrial tractors. This includes straight truck over 4 tons (usually 10 wheels with or without a trailer having a set or several sets of wheels at the rear only, with the forward portion being supported by the truck tractor or towing vehicle), straight truck less than 1 1/2 tons (usually 4 wheels), and straight truck 1 1/2 to 4 tons inclusive (usually 6 wheels).
· Uses equipment to load, or move other materials
· Provides individual personnel and entire units with the movement support, supervision and assistance needed to successfully
· Facilitates and completes the deployment and/or redeployment process
· Reads and interprets the grade and slope of stakes and simple plans, and may grease, adjust and make minor repairs to equipment
· Operates all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant industry standards, policies, and site procedures
· Performs daily safety and maintenance checks
· Cleans heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required
· Ensures heavy equipment is safely and securely stored at close of shift
· Advises direct supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
· Performs routine maintenance
· Maintains a clean and safe work environment
· Performs other relevant duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands
- Required to walk, stand, sit and move about the property for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Walking, stepping, climbing or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, and normally involves physically getting into and out of equipment using vertical mounted ladders 10’ or more in height.
- Ability to visually see equipment operations well (either naturally or with corrective lenses).
- Ability to stoop, kneel, squat, or climb for long periods of time.
- Repetitive movements of feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
- Working at elevated heights.
Work Environment
- Indoor/Outdoor; exposure to external environmental conditions possible.
- Noise level can range from minimal to intense.
Minimum Qualifications
· Must have heavy equipment operation experience with specific experience operating excavators, forklifts, skid steers, etc.
· Must be able to read and interpret equipment operator’s manuals.
· Must be able to operate heavy equipment and/or drive trucks.
· Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English.
· Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions.
· Must be able to multi-task and complete assignments accurately and on time.
· Possess a Valid Drivers’ License.
