Director, Accounts Payable

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Accounts Payable based in India.

This leadership role is responsible for driving the strategy, governance, and operational excellence of the accounts payable function within a fast-paced, global business environment. You will oversee end-to-end AP operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all payment and invoice processes. The role involves leading and developing a high-performing team while continuously improving systems, workflows, and controls. You will play a key part in strengthening financial integrity through robust internal controls and SOX compliance. The position requires close collaboration with finance, operations, and audit teams to streamline processes and enhance performance. This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced finance leader to shape scalable AP operations in a dynamic, technology-driven organization.

Accountabilities:
  • Define and execute the overall strategy for the Accounts Payable function aligned with broader business and finance objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing AP team, fostering accountability, accuracy, and operational excellence.
  • Oversee end-to-end AP operations including invoice processing, vendor payments, and dispute resolution.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Drive implementation and optimization of AP systems, ERP tools, and financial technologies.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls ensuring compliance with SOX requirements and accounting standards.
  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure timely payments and effective resolution of issues.
  • Collaborate with finance, operations, and internal audit teams to streamline processes and address audit findings.
  • Provide reporting, insights, and performance analysis on key AP metrics to support decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Accounts Payable operations with strong exposure to process improvement and system implementation.
  • 2–4 years of leadership experience managing and developing finance or AP teams.
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems and financial accounting tools.
  • Solid knowledge of SOX compliance, internal controls, and audit processes.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve complex AP and financial operational issues.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and stakeholder management capabilities.
