About This Position

Description:

The Inside Sales Representative – MRO is responsible for developing and maintaining customer relationships, driving sales growth, and providing exceptional service for Diversified Supply Inc. (DSI). This role supports existing MRO customers and develops new business by selling electrical distribution products and MRO solutions used in maintenance environments, industrial facilities, plant operations, and service/repair activities.

This position requires strong product knowledge, urgency, and accuracy to support customer needs related to operational continuity (minimizing downtime), quick fulfillment, and alternative product sourcing. The Inside Sales Representative partners closely with Outside Sales, Purchasing, Operations, and Warehouse teams to meet customer expectations while achieving annual sales and gross margin goals

Essential Functions
  • Develop, maintain, and grow assigned MRO customer accounts through proactive inside sales efforts.
  • Provide daily account support for maintenance/plant customers, including emergency/urgent needs to prevent downtime.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries via phone, email, and internal systems.
  • Prepare and process quotations, orders, order changes, returns, and follow-ups accurately and efficiently.
  • Support high-volume transactional sales while maintaining strong service levels and urgency.
  • Cross-reference products and recommend alternates/substitutions based on availability, pricing, and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate product availability, lead times, and delivery requirements with Purchasing, Operations, and Logistics teams.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer records in CRM and ERP systems (contacts, pricing, notes, part numbers, purchasing patterns, etc.).
  • Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate products, solutions, and value-added services.
  • Promote vendor programs, product alternatives, and cost-saving options while protecting profitability.
  • Meet or exceed assigned annual sales revenue and gross margin targets.
  • Collaborate with Outside Sales, Purchasing, Operations, and Warehouse teams to ensure customer satisfaction and timely order fulfillment.
  • Stay current on MRO product categories, electrical products, and relevant industry trends.
  • Comply with all company policies, safety procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Participate in training sessions, vendor/product meetings, trade shows, and internal meetings as assigned.
  • Assist with special sales projects, customer initiatives, and account growth strategies as assigned.
  • Support inventory initiatives (stocking recommendations, special-order patterns, usage trends).
  • Apply basic math skills to ensure accurate pricing and order processing, including calculating totals, quantities, discounts, percentages, freight charges, and gross margin as needed
Requirements: Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of inside sales experience in electrical distribution, industrial supply, or MRO-related environment preferred.
  • Understanding of MRO customer needs and purchasing behaviors (maintenance departments, plant operations, repair work).
  • Product knowledge in electrical distribution is strongly preferred; MRO product familiarity preferred (tools, safety, fasteners, consumables, etc. depending on DSI scope).
  • Proven ability to manage customer relationships and close sales.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills; able to work with urgency and professionalism.
  • Excellent data entry skills; must have fast typing speed and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, ERP software, and resource planning systems (or ability to learn quickly).
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Team player with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentage calculations for pricing, quotes, and order accuracy.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required (if applicable)

  • Ability to verify and interpret order details using basic math skills (quantities, extensions, totals, discount calculations, and margin impact)
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
  • Prolonged periods sitting and/or standing at a desk and working on a computer for 8 hours or more.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and via telephone.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Primarily works in an office environment with standard climate control.
  • May occasionally visit warehouse environments or customer sites, which may involve exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Occasional travel, including short-term customer site visits, may be required
