JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

Use hand-welding, flame-cutting, or brazing equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.

Essential functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  • Plan work from drawings or specifications or use their knowledge of fluxes and base metals to analyze the parts to be joined.
  • Select and set up welding equipment, execute the planned welds, and examine welds to ensure that they meet standards or specifications.
  • Examine weld during the welding process; observe problems with the weld and adjust the speed, voltage, amperage, or feed of the wire or rod.
  • Arc, plasma, and oxy-gas cutters cut and trim metal objects to specific dimensions. Dismantle large objects, such as separators, tanks, and tank ladders.
  • Operate and monitor cutting machines similar to those used by welding machine operators.
  • Wear safety shoes, goggles, hoods with protective lenses, and other devices designed to prevent burns and eye injuries and to protect them from falling objects.
  • Work outdoors, in inclement weather, or indoors, sometimes in a confined area designed to contain sparks and glare.
  • Work on a scaffold or platform high off the ground.
  • Lift heavy objects and work in a variety of awkward positions, while bending, stooping, or standing to perform work overhead.
  • Employee may also be asked by supervisor or other management to perform tasks would be outside the parameters of duties or job functions, you will be expected to complete these job functions as well.
