Primary Locations:

  • Friday: Cannon Memorial Hospital

  • Saturday & Sunday: Watauga Medical Center
  • Additional Coverage: Provides support at Cannon Memorial Hospital as needed
  • WOW Pay: Additional $4.00/hour on top of the base rate

  • Compensation: Starting pay begins at $33.59 per hour, with competitive rates based on experience and education, plus $4.00/hour WOW pay for weekend shifts and a $10,000 hiring bonus.
  • Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt | Weekend-Based Schedule + Additional Coverage

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform high-quality ultrasound examinations in accordance with provider orders and established protocols.

  • Ensure patient safety through proper positioning, preparation, and compliance with imaging and infection control standards.

  • Educate patients about procedures and maintain a professional, compassionate environment.

  • Document all procedures and maintain accurate imaging and patient records within the EMR.

  • Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams for coordinated diagnostic care.

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot ultrasound equipment as needed.

  • Support departmental workflow across two hospital sites, including on-call responsibilities.

Position Requirements Minimum Education
  • Graduate of an AMA-accredited health science or sonography program.

Experience
  • Clinical ultrasound/sonography experience obtained through an AMA-accredited program.

Required Licenses/Certifications
  • ARDMS registered or registry-eligible.

    • New graduates must obtain ARDMS within 1 year of hire.

    • On-the-job-trained sonographers must obtain ARDMS within 2 years.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association—required at hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with patients and clinical teams.

  • Proficiency in safe, effective imaging practices within scope of licensure.

  • Knowledge of sonographic protocols, anatomy, and diagnostic imaging standards.

  • Ability to deliver excellent patient service with strong attention to detail.

Physical Demands
  • Standing and walking 8+ hours per shift.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling 50+ lbs.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, turning, and reaching.
  • Frequent fine motor movement, hand/wrist repetition, and close visual work.
  • Frequent patient mobilization 4+ hours per shift.
  • Exposure to vibration, cramped spaces, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, and acoustic energy.
Working Conditions
  • Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Exposure to electrical/mechanical/power equipment hazards.
  • Exposure to unpleasant elements such as injuries, accidents, or uneven surfaces.
  • Must respond to emergency or crisis situations.
  • Irregular hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays.
  • On-call required.
