Join our Youth Programs & Domestic Advocacy team for a hands-on, meaningful internship where you’ll support youth engagement, event planning, communications, and activities in support of National Child Day/World Children’s Day.

Position Details:

Position Title: Intern – Youth Programs and Domestic Advocacy

Employment Type: Internship; Full-time

Duration: 16- week term (August to December)

Reports to: Senior Manager, Youth Programs

Direct Reports: None

Salary Range: $ 27.20 per hour (37.5 hours per week)

Work Location: Ottawa

Position Description

The Youth Programs and Domestic Advocacy team is seeking a motivated, organized, self-starter to join us as an Intern. You will assist with youth engagement, event planning, communications, and administrative duties to support the department’s planning towards National Child Day/World Children’s Day activities. In this role, you will also have an opportunity to work on projects to develop your skills in one or more of these areas:

•Youth engagement

•Advocacy Programming and Government Engagement

•Project management

•Event planning

•Safeguarding Considerations

•Communications Skills

Responsibilities

•Support the planning, coordination and execution of National Child Day (NCD), including tracking tasks, coordinating across Youth Programs and Domestic Advocacy teams, and supporting the timely execution of activities.

•Support youth engagement and the Youth Planning Committee (YPC), including liaising with UNICEF Canada staff, organizing and co-leading YPC meetings, and ensuring follow-up on action items and responsibilities.

•Support young people to prepare for participation in activities by coordinating briefings, materials, and logistical information to ensure meaningful and informed engagement.

•Contribute to content and materials development, including drafting and formatting internal and external communications and helping prepare engagement resources.

•Provide event and campaign support, including logistics coordination, event promotion, communications support, and post-event documentation and tracking.

•Support outreach and engagement efforts with MP and government offices in coordination with UNICEF Canada’s Government Relations Policy Specialist

•Provide support to key research assignments and/or youth engagement initiatives as needed

The ideal candidate will have:

•Passion for children’s rights

•Strong interest in child and youth issues, youth voice and not-for-profit organizations

•Experience with youth engagement (is a young person themself, or has participated in similar activities as a youth participant), particularly youth events

•Ability to work as part of a team

•Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

•Excellent organizational skills

•Excellent time-management skills

•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

•Solid understanding of social media platforms

•Bilingualism in English and French is an asset

•Occasional work during evenings and weekends
