Position Summary
EVgo is seeking a seasoned project-oriented engineer to design and manage EVgo charging station infrastructure deployment. Accountable for managing internal and external engineering resources, you will produce, deliver, and provide technical expertise in a deadline-oriented environment for a portfolio of simultaneous projects. As part of the broader Deployment Team, you will support all phases of the project lifecycle, with direct responsibility for technical site evaluation, station design, and permitting. Overall, the Project Development Engineer delivers optimally designed sites incorporating constructability, cost efficiency, customer experience, and safe operation.
Responsibilities
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for engineering and site design during all phases of feasibility, design, and construction of EVgo sites.
- Create development engineering deliverables such as project cost estimations, conceptual layout designs, and single-line diagrams.
- Produce scope of work and track project deadlines and deliverables from engineering partners (e.g., site surveys, preliminary and permit package engineering).
- Accountability for excellent quality control and code compliance on all design activities from proposal to detailed engineering.
- Execute standardized design and construction logistics approaches optimizing
- Ensure projects adhere to internal and external stakeholder standards and requirements and that these requirements are prioritized appropriately.
- Pipeline Reporting and maintenance; provide conscientious reporting on multiple simultaneous projects in the development engineering phase.
- Track productivity metrics of work in progress for business diligence and expectations on deliverable lead times.
- In coordination with permitting staff, meet with zoning/permitting personnel to understand jurisdictional approval requirements and opportunities for timeline reduction.
- Track and manage status of all needed approvals.
- Provide or facilitate design support as needed to the general contractor during all phases of construction.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.
Desired Skills
- BS in Engineering, Electrical Engineering preferred. PE or EIT working towards PE preferred but not required. Commensurate experience considered in lieu of degree on a case-by-case basis.
- 2+ years of experience as a design engineer, project manager in a technical field, or similar role, particularly in infrastructure deployment fields such as EV charging, telecom, solar, or retail development.
- Direct EV charging industry experience strongly preferred. Utility, Renewables (commercial solar, energy storage), High Voltage Engineering Industry Experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of electrical design drawings, electrical equipment, power integration and utility design processes, with advanced knowledge of site development procedures including regulatory and permitting processes.
- Skilled in reading, understanding and redlining zoning and construction drawings. Familiar with cost implications of construction design options and able to make cost-efficiency recommendations.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal communication and management skills
- Aptitude in communicating with property owners, local jurisdictions, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project cycle.
- Established record of accomplishment managing and delivering multiple simultaneous projects ahead of schedule while adhering to the highest quality and standards.
- Working knowledge of Salesforce or enterprise CRM systems preferred but not required

- Actual salary may vary depending on job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition to a competitive base salary, we offer discretionary target cash bonuses, restricted stock units (subject to Board Approval), and a comprehensive benefits package including health, life, and disability insurance, unbounded paid time off including parental leave, and a 401(k).

The pay range for this role is:
81,300 - 101,600 USD per year(US)
