Workday Payroll (Continuous Value Services) Principal Consultant

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Workday Payroll (Continuous Value Services) Principal Consultant based in the United States.

This role is centered on delivering expert-level post-production support for Workday Payroll in a dynamic, client-facing environment where problem-solving and precision are critical. You will act as a trusted advisor to clients, helping them navigate complex payroll challenges while ensuring system stability and ongoing optimization. The position requires strong functional expertise, a proactive mindset, and the ability to balance multiple priorities across different clients and engagements. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure seamless configuration, testing, and production support. With a strong focus on client satisfaction, you will also help define best practices, mitigate risks, and improve payroll processes across the Workday ecosystem. This is a high-impact consulting role where your expertise directly contributes to operational excellence and long-term customer success.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will provide expert guidance and hands-on support across Workday Payroll post-production environments while ensuring service quality, stability, and continuous improvement.

  • Identify risks, strategies, and solution options while recommending best-fit approaches for client payroll requirements
  • Collaborate with functional teams and external vendors to configure, test, and validate solutions without impacting production environments
  • Manage multiple priorities and client engagements while maintaining clear communication with stakeholders and engagement managers
  • Serve as a functional expert in Workday Payroll, with deep understanding of integrations across HCM, Finance, Time Tracking, Absence, and related modules
  • Act as a mentor and advisor to junior consultants and analysts, including supporting shadow assignments and knowledge sharing
  • Drive decision-making and recommend payroll best practices to improve system performance and client outcomes
  • Execute day-to-day support activities including process design, ticket resolution, and post-production enhancements
  • Contribute to internal initiatives, utilization goals, and continuous improvement efforts within the payroll practice
  • Support business development activities such as proposals and solution scoping when required
  • Participate in ongoing training and knowledge-sharing initiatives to stay current on Workday updates and enhancements
Requirements:

This role requires strong Workday Payroll expertise combined with consulting experience, client management skills, and the ability to operate in fast-paced, multi-client environments.

  • 2+ years of Workday experience in implementation or post-production support environments
  • Strong subject matter expertise in Workday Payroll functionality
  • Experience in requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, testing, and deployment
  • Current Workday Payroll certification highly preferred (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Professional (FPP) certification preferred
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze issues and implement effective solutions
  • Proven ability to manage multiple clients and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
  • Strong customer service orientation with a focus on client satisfaction and outcomes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Willingness to travel on-site if required (minimal travel expected)
