About This Position
We have a wonderful opportunity for a Metallurgical Process Technician. The Metallurgical Process Technician will perform hands-on sample preparation of metallurgical samples while working in a fast-paced laboratory setting. Methods of sample preparation include, but are not limited to sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching. The position’s responsibilities also include interpreting and following part drawings, specifications, and instructions as assigned by senior personnel.
This position is ideal for candidates with 2–4 years of hands-on metallurgical or materials testing experience who enjoy detailed work and take pride in producing consistent, high-quality results.
This is an onsite working at our facility in Hatfield, PA. The hours are Monday through Friday from 12pm to 8:30pm.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs basic sample preparation consisting of sectioning with abrasive cutoff saws, hot and cold mounting, automatic grinding/polishing of routine samples, and manual grinding/polishing of non-routine samples.
- Prepares a wide variety of metal samples including, but not limited to, iron, nickel, titanium, copper, and aluminum-based alloys.
- Interprets engineering documents, drawings, and specifications to determine the appropriate method of sample preparation.
- Responsible for recognizing a sample’s material type, orientation, size, and form.
- Follows instructions and guidance provided by Sample Distribution and senior Metallography Personnel.
- Monitors frequently changing scheduled completion dates and times to ensure that established deadlines are met.
- Labels materials and prepared samples with pertinent identification and information.
- Cleans and maintains the sample preparation lab environment.
- Conducts routine maintenance of equipment including basic repairs when possible.
- Must be mechanically inclined with skillful hand dexterity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires use of information or access to processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export laws including but not limited to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). In accordance with ITAR, to be qualified to work in this facility, applicants must be a US Person, which is defined as a US National, US Permanent Resident, and certain categories of Asylees and Refugees.
