Job Description

Role: Social Security Specialist

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Work Mode: Onsite

Employment Type: Contract

Interview Mode: In-person

  • Works as professional staff within the Client's Central Eligibility Unit performing multiple Social Security Unit tasks

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • It may require interaction with Family Case Managers, supervisors, and Local Office Directors to request and clarify information when making determinations.
  • The job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.

Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time.

  • Submit SSI applications
  • Submit CDR applications
  • Submit Recon applications
  • Data entry on social security forms
  • Complete social security accounting reports
  • Scan social security mail
  • Customer service calls to SSA and DDB to relay basic placement information
  • Email template SSI referral requests to FCMs, and forward received referrals to supervisor
  • Manage SSI referral follow ups, sending emails for unreceived requests
  • Mail school and medical records requests for hearings
  • Manage follow-ups for hearings records requests
  • Submit SSN email requests to SSA
  • Post-refund case research for additional benefit checks received in error
  • Respond in writing to SSA address and check notices
  • Monthly check audits to look for SSA payment coding errors
  • Mail outgoing social security correspondence
  • Social security overpayment notice review for accuracy

Skills Required:

  • High school Diploma Required
  • Prior experience in a position with strong data entry skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and multitask
  • Previous experience in a position that demanded a high level of confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of MaGIK and/or KidTracks
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to child services and adoption eligibility.
  • Prior experience with accounting and auditing.
  • Prior experience with the social security prgram.
  • Prior experience with benefits coordination.
