This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Coder, Auditing (PRN) based in the United States.
This role focuses on ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of medical coding across a variety of healthcare records in a highly detail-oriented and regulated environment. You will review clinical documentation, validate coding assignments, and identify discrepancies that impact billing, compliance, and reporting accuracy. Working closely with clinicians, providers, and revenue cycle teams, you will help ensure documentation meets established coding standards and regulatory guidelines. The position also involves supporting education efforts, helping improve documentation quality and coding consistency across teams. You will prepare audit findings and executive-level summaries that inform leadership decisions and operational improvements. This is a remote, flexible PRN role suited for a highly analytical professional who thrives in precision-driven healthcare environments.
- Apply appropriate medical coding classification systems and guidelines to facility, professional, and critical access records to ensure accurate coding and compliant documentation.
- Conduct detailed audits of medical records, verifying documentation accuracy, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring alignment with coding standards.
- Review charges and make corrections or recommendations based on clinical documentation and regulatory requirements.
- Research missing, unclear, or inconsistent documentation and support resolution through provider queries and follow-up.
- Develop, review, and manage provider queries to resolve documentation gaps and improve coding accuracy.
- Maintain and organize audit logs and documentation across multiple clients while ensuring consistency and traceability.
- Prepare executive-level summaries of audit findings, including actionable insights and recommendations.
- Collaborate with physicians, clinical teams, revenue cycle (AR) teams, and leadership, including executive stakeholders, to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Proven experience in facility, professional, and critical access coding and auditing, including exposure to observation services, injections, and infusion coding.
- Strong knowledge of official coding guidelines, including CPT coding standards, NCCI edits, CPT Assistant references, and Coding Clinic guidance.
- Ability to perform high-accuracy medical coding reviews while maintaining a 95% or higher quality standard and productivity expectations.
- Experience supporting education initiatives for coders, providers, and clinical staff to improve documentation quality.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with physicians, executives, and cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a remote environment with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Must be able to pass a coding assessment and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
