Actuarial Director

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Actuarial Director based in the United States.

This senior leadership role sits at the intersection of actuarial science, data analytics, and strategic consulting within the employee benefits space. You will shape financial strategies that help employers design and manage competitive health and welfare programs for their workforce. Acting as both a technical expert and client advisor, you will influence high-impact decisions related to plan design, cost forecasting, and benefits optimization. The role combines hands-on actuarial modeling with client-facing leadership, including presentations to senior executives and C-suite stakeholders. You will also guide internal teams, mentor analysts, and help define best practices across actuarial and analytics functions. This is a highly visible position in a fast-paced consulting environment where analytical rigor and business insight directly improve client outcomes.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead actuarial analyses supporting employer health and welfare benefits strategies, including cost projections, plan design optimization, and benchmarking.
  • Develop and oversee financial forecasting models covering claims, expenses, underwriting outcomes, and utilization trends.
  • Design and execute actuarial studies and ensure methodologies are robust, consistent, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Serve as a client-facing advisor, presenting complex financial and actuarial insights to senior leadership and C-suite stakeholders.
  • Manage end-to-end delivery of client projects, including timelines, deliverables, peer review coordination, and internal communication.
  • Lead development of data and analytics strategies to support enterprise decision-making and business value creation.
  • Support business development efforts and contribute to proposals, client discussions, and solution design.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior actuaries and analysts, including coaching, performance management, and team development.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of actuarial experience with relevant credentials in actuarial science or equivalent professional certification.
  • Strong expertise in health insurance, employee benefits, stop loss, reinsurance, and related insurance products.
  • Proven experience in financial modeling, data analysis, and actuarial forecasting within complex client environments.
  • 5+ years of client-facing consulting experience, including presenting to non-technical and executive audiences.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams, mentoring staff, and overseeing project delivery.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple complex engagements simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate technical insights into actionable business recommendations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary range of approximately $150,000–$170,000 annually, depending on experience and location.
  • Eligibility for performance-based bonuses, commissions, or variable compensation.
  • Comprehensive health, wellness, dental, vision, and retirement benefits.
  • Paid time off and additional leave programs supporting work-life balance.
  • Professional development opportunities, including training and continuous learning programs.
  • Reimbursement of eligible job-related expenses in line with company policy.
  • Employee perks and discounts where applicable.
  • Opportunity to work in a senior leadership role with high visibility and direct client impact.
