This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Database Administrator based in India.
This role is a senior technical leadership position responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and security of large-scale SQL Server database environments operating in a global, high-availability ecosystem. You will play a key role in managing mission-critical database infrastructure that supports high-volume digital transactions across multiple regions. The position involves leading modernization initiatives, optimizing performance, and enforcing best practices in security, compliance, and reliability. You will work within a follow-the-sun support model, collaborating with international teams to ensure 24/7 system availability and rapid incident resolution. The role also includes mentoring junior DBAs and contributing to continuous improvement of database operations and architecture. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for professionals who thrive in complex, enterprise-scale environments.
- Lead the administration, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise SQL Server environments ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability.
- Review, approve, and manage database releases while ensuring adherence to security, compliance, and operational standards.
- Design and implement improvements to database infrastructure, including modernization and scalability initiatives.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and apply quick fixes while coordinating escalation for complex performance challenges.
- Ensure adherence to backup, recovery, and disaster recovery policies across all database systems.
- Participate in a global follow-the-sun support model, including incident management and SLA-driven support activities.
- Apply patches, updates, and security enhancements to maintain a stable and compliant database environment.
- Document legacy systems and processes to improve operational clarity and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize database architecture and support application requirements.
- Mentor and guide junior DBAs, supporting their technical development and operational excellence.
- 8+ years of experience as a Database Administrator in highly available SQL Server environments across on-premise and virtual infrastructures.
- Strong expertise in SQL Server 2017+ including Always On, transactional replication, query store, and log shipping.
- Proven experience in performance tuning, incident management, and large-scale database operations.
- Hands-on experience with automation using PowerShell, DBAtools, or similar scripting technologies.
- Strong understanding of backup, recovery, and database security best practices.
- Familiarity with Windows server administration and storage infrastructure concepts.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS is a strong advantage.
- Ability to work in global, distributed teams and participate in 24/7 operational support models.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Microsoft certifications are a plus.
- Prior experience in manufacturing or development background is considered an advantage.
