Laundry Attendant at Lambeth House – New Orleans, Louisiana

Basic Purpose:

Responsible for proper transporting, handling, sorting and laundering residents’ personal clothing, bed and bath linens, and table linens in accordance with established guidelines as required in community policy and procedures.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Retrieves, washes, dries, folds and delivers residents’ personal clothing and bedding back to residents’ apartments.
2. Washes, dries, starches and irons all table linens and flatwork.
3. Maintains a clean, safe environment in the laundry’s soiled and clean rooms.
4. Reports any malfunctions of equipment immediately to Engineering or Housekeeping Director.
5. Uses universal precautions when transporting and handling soiled laundry.
6. Treats all residents with respect and dignity.
7. Responds promptly and courteously to resident requests.
8. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Housekeeping Director and any request made by any other manager or the Executive Director.
9. Receives and marks articles for laundry or dry cleaning with resident’s name.
10. Presents a professional appearance by following uniform guidelines, including wearing a nametag daily.
11. Attends 12 hours of in-service training annually.
12. Reports safety concerns to Housekeeping Director.
13. Follows guidelines for care and maintenance of equipment.
14. Attends weekly staff meetings.
15. Performs additional cleaning duties in case of emergencies or staff shortage.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
2. Knowledge of resident rights.
3. Interacts with guests, residents, and staff in a courteous and friendly manner.
4. Able to read, write and speak English.
5. Must keep resident information confidential and must treat all residents, family members, guests and other staff with dignity and respect at all times.
6. Must possess good communication skills.

Typical Physical Demands:

1. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting (up to 60 lbs.), balancing, walking, stooping and, handling of materials.
2. Must be able to operate and instruct operation of housekeeping equipment.
3. Must be able to tolerate exposure to heat above 100 degrees Fahrenheit for sustained periods, vibration, skin irritants, lung irritants and chemicals.
