Expert Project Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Expert Project Engineer based in United States.

This role is responsible for leading complex engineering projects focused on the design, installation, and startup of packaging and processing equipment within manufacturing and feed supply operations. You will oversee the full project lifecycle, from early-stage scope definition and capital planning through execution, commissioning, and performance validation. The position plays a critical role in improving plant efficiency, reliability, and process optimization across multiple facilities. You will collaborate closely with engineering leaders, plant management teams, and external contractors to ensure successful delivery of capital projects. This is a highly field-based role requiring strong technical expertise, hands-on problem solving, and frequent interaction with production environments. With significant travel and exposure to live operations, the role combines strategic engineering design with practical on-site implementation.

Accountabilities
  • Lead the design, planning, and execution of capital projects focused on packaging equipment and process improvements across manufacturing and feed production facilities.
  • Develop project scope, engineering designs, equipment specifications, and cost estimates in collaboration with engineering and plant leadership teams.
  • Manage end-to-end project execution, including contractor coordination, vendor selection, scheduling, and budget control.
  • Conduct process evaluations, system audits, and in-plant testing to identify opportunities for operational and efficiency improvements.
  • Validate performance outcomes of capital investments and ensure expected improvements are achieved post-implementation.
  • Develop and maintain equipment standards, lifecycle projections, and long-term replacement and maintenance strategies.
  • Recommend process optimization methods and support the implementation of operational improvements across facilities.
Requirements

This role requires strong engineering expertise combined with proven project management experience in industrial or manufacturing environments. Candidates should have a hands-on approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to drive technical improvements across cross-functional teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Agricultural, Food, Feed Process, or related field) with 5+ years of project management experience preferred.
  • Alternatively, 4-year degree with 7+ years of experience in plant operations, maintenance, supervision, or capital project leadership in feed, grain, milling, or processing environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of packaging systems, robotics, and industrial processing equipment highly preferred.
  • Proven experience managing capital projects, budgets, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical or agricultural systems and industrial processing operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement data-driven solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence operators, supervisors, and plant leadership.
  • Willingness to travel 50–75% and work in active manufacturing environments with variable conditions.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary ranging from $123,920 to $185,880 depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer contributions.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and additional well-being programs.
  • Education assistance and professional development opportunities.
  • Life and disability insurance coverage.
  • Employee assistance and wellness resources.
  • Exposure to large-scale capital projects within a nationally recognized organization.
