Position Summary
The Maternal/Child Health Educator is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating health education programs that promote the well-being of pregnant individuals, infants, children and families. This role focuses on providing culturally responsive, evidence-based education in antepartum, childbirth, postpartum health, infant feeding, child development, nutrition, and preventive health practices. The educator works collaboratively with healthcare providers, community organizations, and families to reduce health disparities, improve health outcomes, empower parents and caregivers to make informed health decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide training and orientation for new hires, ongoing education for staff in L&D, Mother Baby, Nursery, and Pediatrics.
- Facilitate annual skills and drills.
- Reviewing current literature to update clinical policies and procedures.
- Mentors staff on best practices.
- Monitoring patient care quality, auditing documentation, and implementing changes to improve clinical outcomes.
- Working with physicians, unit managers, and leadership to identify learning needs.
- Ensuring staff training meets hospital policies and state/federal standards.
- Maintains employees’ files, credentials, and continued education.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years’ clinical experience in the Maternal Child Service field.
- Must hold an active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- ACLS, BLS, NRP, PALS (preferred)
- Within 6 months of hire obtain NRP and PALS instructor certifications.

Salary- $35.00—$46.00
