Job Description
OVERVIEW:
Under the general supervision of the Human Resources Director, the HR Generalist performs more complex human resources administrative tasks related to personnel, benefits, workers’ compensation, safety, training, and other related work, as required.
This is a non-exempt position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist and support the Human Resources Director in general operations of the department
- Provide training on Safety courses
- Provide onboarding to new hires
- Work with local community partners on job postings and openings.
- Assist with EDD Documents
- Assist with Safety Program
- Answer difficult questions involving understanding of policies, procedures, and regulations using independent judgment
- Coordinate, manage, and assist in harassment and complaint investigations
- Responsible for enrollment and administration of group benefits
- Attend human resources appointments and meetings as required
- Provide Workers’ Compensation Analysis and updates
- Update Human Resource Manual with Director of HR
- Responsible for assisting in updating the Union Contract with HR Director
- Conduct Exit Interviews with HR Director
- May be asked to assist with note-taking at the table during Negotiations.
- Attend all payroll and benefit meetings when necessary
- Assist with other HR Functions as requested
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resource Management, and Organization
- Development or related field.
- Three plus years of progressive leadership experience in a Human Resources position and personnel management.
- Familiar with employment law, fringe benefits, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, training, and preventive labor relations
ABILITIES:
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing with individuals and groups
- Have excellent computer skills in MS Windows environment
- Must include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and have good skills in database management and record keeping
- Have excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
- Practice a high level of confidentiality
- Collect, analyze, evaluate and prepare human resources statistical data
- Plan, organize, implement and evaluate development services
- Work effectively under conditions of limited supervision, time constraints to meet deadlines and schedules, and rapidly changing situations and circumstances
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Administration of benefits, compensation programs, and other HR programs
- HRIS
- Performance Development System
- Adult learning theory and practices
- Employment laws and practices
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
*PHR or SPHR (optional)
1. Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation and proof of minimum California
vehicle insurance.
2. Ability to walk, stoop and squat as needed; be able to lift and carry more than 30 pounds regularly and to sit as much as 75% of scheduled working time.
