Job Description

The Human Resources Officer oversees the administration of the Supreme Court of Nevada's human resources and payroll functions and reports to the Chief Operating Officer within the Administrative Office of the Courts. The position provides general supervision of assigned staff and serves as a resource to Court leadership, managers, and employees on personnel matters. Responsibilities include recruitment and retention, payroll administration, benefits and leave management, performance management, training and development, workplace safety, and compliance with applicable employment laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. The position collaborates with fiscal staff to support payroll operations, maintain effective internal controls, and ensure compliance with financial and audit requirements.

The position provides guidance on employee relations matters, workplace concerns, disciplinary actions, and policy interpretation. This role conducts workplace investigations and prepares findings and recommendations. Responsibilities also include oversight of classification and compensation programs, workforce planning activities, organizational and position reviews, and policy development. Through effective administration of human resources programs and services, the position supports organizational objectives, promotes a positive workplace culture, and helps maintain a professional, accountable, and high-performing workforce.

This position can be located in Carson City or Las Vegas.

Statewide travel is required. This position may require working evenings, weekends, or after-hours.

After an initial training period, there may be an opportunity for a hybrid remote/in-office schedule.

Qualifications

  • Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in human resources and payroll administration, including at least two years of supervisory, lead worker, or program management experience.
  • Knowledge of human resources and payroll practices, including recruitment, employee relations, classification and compensation, benefits, leave administration, payroll processing, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Title VII, and related requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and resolving employee relations issues with professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise leadership and build collaborative working relationships.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of leadership development principles, including emotional intelligence, employee engagement, communication strategies, coaching techniques, and professional skill development.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Business or Public Administration, Accounting, or a related field is preferred.

If this position is approved for remote or hybrid work, the incumbent must be able to work effectively and manage responsibilities from a remote location. This includes the ability to supervise employees remotely, as needed, and proficiency in using virtual meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams. Employees approved for remote work must provide their own secure internet connection capable of supporting all job functions. A minimum internet speed of 50–100 Mbps download is required; higher speeds may be necessary if the connection is shared within the household.
