This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead AI Engineer based in the United States.
This is a high-impact, hands-on technical leadership role focused on building and scaling production-grade AI agents that automate and transform core business workflows. You will own problems end-to-end, from understanding operational challenges to designing, building, and deploying intelligent systems used in real production environments. The role combines deep engineering expertise with strong product thinking, requiring close collaboration with business stakeholders to translate complex workflows into reliable AI-driven solutions. You will define the architectural standards for agent design, ensuring scalability, safety, and measurable business impact. This position is ideal for a builder who thrives in ambiguity and is motivated by shipping real systems rather than prototypes. You will also play a key role in mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar across AI initiatives. - Own AI agent initiatives end-to-end, including problem definition, system design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with business teams to map workflows (e.g., underwriting, title production, operations) and identify high-impact automation opportunities.
- Design and implement scalable AI agent architectures, including tool use, memory/state management, retrieval systems, and safety guardrails.
- Build full-stack solutions using C# and TypeScript/React to deliver usable, secure, and performant AI-powered internal tools.
- Deploy and operate solutions on Azure using Azure AI Foundry, including model selection, evaluation pipelines, and production monitoring.
- Establish evaluation frameworks, metrics, and test suites to ensure reliability, reduce hallucinations, and continuously improve agent performance.
- Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure enterprise-grade data handling, access control, and auditability.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and help define best practices for AI system development and deployment.
- 3–8 years of experience building and shipping production-grade software systems.
- Strong proficiency in C#/.NET and modern TypeScript/React, with a focus on clean, maintainable, testable code.
- Hands-on experience deploying AI/LLM or agent-based systems in production environments, ideally using Azure AI Foundry or related Azure AI services.
- Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor engineers while remaining hands-on in delivery.
- Strong product mindset with the ability to translate ambiguous business problems into structured technical solutions.
- High ownership mentality with a strong bias toward shipping, measuring impact, and iterating quickly.
- Experience working with RAG systems, retrieval optimization, or internal knowledge-based AI systems (preferred).
- Familiarity with API integrations, workflow automation, and distributed system design (preferred).
- Exposure to regulated or security-sensitive environments, including PII handling and access control (preferred).
- Experience building automated evaluation frameworks for LLMs or AI agents (golden datasets, regression testing) is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
