Our Cost Management team delivers expert cost planning, estimating, and change management across the full development cycle for residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and infrastructure projects. We provide clear, data-driven insights at every design stage, advising on constructability, escalation, contingency, cash flow, and life-cycle costs to reduce risk and maximize value. Powered by a robust database of material and labour costs, our accredited professionals benchmark and market-test every estimate, ensuring accuracy across regions, asset classes, and changing market conditions.
BTY Group is seeking a highly experienced Estimate Lead to oversee all aspects of the Green Line LRT project estimating and cost management. The successful candidate will lead all estimating activities, implement and manage robust cost control systems, deliver accurate cost forecasts, and oversee cash flow forecasting to support project planning and execution.
This role is critical to ensuring financial integrity, effective risk mitigation, and cost transparency for one of Calgary’s most significant infrastructure investments.
What You Get to Do
- Develop project estimate plans and lead preparation of Class 5–Class 1 estimates per industry standards and City guidelines.
- Review and validate consultant/contractor estimates; maintain cost-estimating databases, benchmarks, and tools; and support change management with cost assessments.
- Establish and maintain cost control systems, track budgets, expenditures, and variances, and lead monthly/quarterly cost forecasts with stakeholders.
- Manage contingency plans and drawdowns, prepare detailed cash flow projections, coordinate with finance, and deliver accurate cost reports and dashboards.
- Oversee integration of cost systems with scheduling tools, ensure data quality, manage systems such as InEight/EcoSys/Prism, mentor junior staff, and collaborate across teams on project delivery and performance management.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction.
- 10+ years of experience in Project Controls, Estimating, and Cost Control on major infrastructure or transit projects.
- 8+ years of experience in complex, high-profile, mega construction project.
- Possesses a deep understanding of engineering principles, construction methods, contracts, and cost control techniques.
- Proven track record in leading estimating and cost functions on large capital projects.
- Proficient in cost control systems such as InEight, Oracle, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of industry-standard estimating tools (e.g., Hard Dollar).
- Familiarity with AACEI cost management and estimating guidelines.
- Advanced skills in MS Excel and project reporting tools like Power BI.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Assets:
- PMP, CCP (Certified Cost Professional), or equivalent designation.
- Knowledge of contract administration and project delivery models (DB, DBF, DBFM).
