This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Employee Benefits Compliance Attorney based in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of law, regulatory strategy, and employee benefits consulting, supporting a highly collaborative team focused on health and welfare plan compliance. You will play a key role in interpreting complex legislation and translating it into clear, actionable guidance for internal teams and clients nationwide. The position combines deep legal analysis with hands-on advisory work, content creation, and cross-functional collaboration across multiple business units. You will help shape regulatory strategy, strengthen compliance resources, and ensure consistent understanding of evolving federal requirements. Operating in a fast-paced and highly knowledgeable environment, this role requires both technical legal expertise and strong communication skills. It is an opportunity to influence compliance practices at scale while working closely with diverse stakeholders across the organization.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will provide expert legal and regulatory guidance on employee benefits compliance while supporting strategic initiatives and knowledge sharing across the organization.

  • Interpret and analyze complex federal regulations governing health and welfare benefit plans, translating them into practical guidance
  • Support the development and execution of regulatory and legislative strategy, working closely with leadership to educate internal teams nationwide
  • Monitor and assess new and emerging laws and regulations, including ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, MHPAEA, Transparency in Coverage, and related frameworks
  • Respond to daily inquiries from internal teams regarding compliance matters and provide timely legal and regulatory support
  • Contribute to the creation of compliance tools, thought leadership content, guides, and client-facing educational materials
  • Deliver presentations and training sessions on employee benefits compliance topics to internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including actuarial, pharmacy, wellness, operations, marketing, and communications
  • Support and evaluate third-party vendor partnerships related to compliance solutions and services
  • Assist in managing shared resources, inboxes, and knowledge distribution to ensure timely and accurate responses
Requirements:

This position requires strong legal expertise in employee benefits compliance, combined with exceptional analytical, writing, and communication skills.

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and active license to practice law in the United States
  • 8+ years of experience in employee benefits law, with a strong focus on regulatory and compliance matters
  • Deep knowledge of health and welfare benefit regulations, including ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, MHPAEA, and related federal frameworks
  • Proven ability to interpret complex legal language and translate it into clear, actionable guidance
  • Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities and multiple stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-legal audiences
  • Self-starter mindset with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities
  • Growth-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
